Brad Pitt has responded to the news of his unexpected divorce from Angelina Jolie, which was announced this morning.
The actor told People in a statement
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
His comments shortly follow statements by Jolie Pitt’s lawyer and manager on the actress’ behalf. Her attorney Robert Offer publicly confirmed the news of the couple’s separation this morning:
“Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family.She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
According to an original report by TMZ, Jolie Pitt filed for separation on Sept. 15, citing irreconcilable differences. Sources told the site that the actress and humanitarian chose to separate over her husband’s parenting tactics, and Page Six reports rumors that she discovered he was having an affair with his Allied costar Marion Cotillard.
